  • Hi Kristina! Now I understand your entree about hi-tech etc... I do -in some ways- agree with you. It is also a pervasive idea about the Keukenhof being to unnatural to be beautiful, a belief which is held by many Dutch people (who never visited...). That's why relatively few Dutch people visit as compared to foreigners. In a way I think that that idea is not fair when you see what they do at the Keukenhof. The Keukenhof is NOT PUBLIC SPACE... It was set up some 40 years ago to be a showroom of the highest quality of what Dutch bulbgrowers could produce. And THAT is what you will find (with names of the tulips as well as of the growers). You have to pay an entrance fee. And then the character of tulips and most other bulbs...The flowering season is VERY short.. Plus the character of most flowers... They seems to ask for strong straight lines (which are of course boring). In many places in the keukenhof the garden architects were very skillful in using the somewhat hilly aspect of the dunes on which part of the Keukenhof lies (Holland is flat as a pancake except for the dunes next to the North Sea and some tiny hills in the south of Holland). Anyway I never visited the Keukenhof before I started with photography as a hobby, now nearly 2 years ago and now the Spring Flower garden strikes me as offering lots of possibilities to make photos... The example of the garden you send is indeed timelessly beautiful... But what would YOU do if you are designing a spring flower garden of bulbs....with a feared short time of flowering...Even within the short span of opening you have to orchestrate the park to be beautiful all the time. Some tulips are only beautiful for 2 weeks.... The keukenhof is closed most of the year.... You cannot even pay an entrance fee.... I would love to visit it now... to see how it is without colours, with black earthen raked beds... etc... Hope you see what I tried to describe to you... Greetings Anna
