  • I really enjoyed your album of Kiev, and all the photos. Looks like we visited many of the same places. I invite you to take a look at my album of Kiev. Have you ever spent anytime in the countryside in Ukraine? It's so beautiful and you can see my photos of the countryside when you get to my page. Do you speak the language at all?

  • Great details captured on the various buildings and statues that bring a unique flavour to this city! Thanks for sharing the interesting tour! All the best and happy travels! :)

  • Thanks Vera, I went to Kiev on my own as a short city-break. I don't speak any Ukrainian but I did have a Russian phrasebook and I can read cyrillic which was at least a help in reading street and metro signs. English is certainly spoken less here than most places I have been to, even less so than Uzbekistan, and it was a bit frustrating that although people were very friendly I couldn't communicate with them. Having said that it was Kiev day all weekend and conversation was pretty much drowned out by all the music and partying :)

  • Greetings, Stephen! Thank you for sharing your view of Kiev. Going through your pictures of the city was like reliving my own tour of the city a few summers ago. I went to all the very same places! However, I really enjoy getting out into the countryside, so I invite you to take a look at my photo albums of Ukraine. Our cover shots for our albums were taken from the very same spot! I haven't yet gone through your other travel albums, but by their titles I see that you've been to many, many of the same places - Agra, Jaipur, Varanasi, Istanbul, Kathmandu, Italy, Greece, and the same cities in the States as well as northern England (although I'm from the US). I don't have my far-flung travels postes as most of those photos were taken on slide film some time back; I just have the recent digital pictures up. Just curious: In Ukraine, were you on a tour or did you manage on your own? If you don't speak the language, how did you manage? I speak Ukrainian but have always thought that the country was quite a challenge to non-speakers. India and Nepal are easier, I believe, for English speakers. Vera
