Hello Vera, Just to let you know that your photos are so wonderful. beautiful Scenery. Up date on Joanne and the Twins, Simon took her in hospital the morning at 4 30am, she thought she was having contractions, (False Alarm), but they are keeping her in for a couple of days. Hier bin ich nun auch wieder, liebe Vera! Habe mir gerade dein Wien Album angeschaut und viele altbekannte Plaetze gefunden. Ich habe 37 Jahre meines Lebens in Wien verbracht. Im Belvedere war ich sehr oft, schon als kleines Kind, da wir in der Traung####e Nummer 7 wohnten (Anfang des Rennweges). Hi, am so happy to have found your album of Vienna (through your featured album of today) I grew up in Vienna during the war years and what makes this album special to me are all the pictures of Schoenbrunn. I was one of the people who was a participant in the clean-up of the castle after the war ended. It had housed the Russian Occupation troups for a while and jobs were almost non-existant so I was greatful to have the opportunity to earn a little income. Hello, I am so pleased to see your beautiful and charming photos of a city I remember so fondly. I was very fortunate to visit in June, 1972 when my son was just 2 months old. Our family had the good fortune to stay in Schloss Schoenbrunn Palace for nearly 2 weeks. My husbands mother was the daughter of Ziegfried Stark who with his wife resided at the palace as he was a government or state official, I can't remember for sure. I was never able to meet him as he passed away due to complications from a car accident in April of that year. I have a photo of our family in the gardens of the Palace surrounding the huge pram that was my son's home for most of our stay. That trip was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see one of the most beautiful cities and countries in the world. I so enjoyed the streetcars, the Manner bars, and my visit to Der Riesenrad. Please excuse my spelling as it's a little rusty. I have so very much enjoyed viewing your album, especially since you were kind enough to describe so beautifully all the lovely photo's. I am in search of a photo of Der Riesenrad. Somewhere, perhaps on Webshots I am thinking I saw a photo and the baskets were different. They were open like suspended seats instead of like a small cabin. It seems that when I was there in 1972 there were a lot more baskets on that ride. Sorry, I can't remember what the cars or baskets where people ride are called. If you might perhaps know of a site where I could see some additional photo's I would sure appreciate knowing. My e-mail is aralik@cox.net and I would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Also, when we went to Salzburg I seem to recall that there was a tram that went up to the castle on the hill. My son, in his pram was carried up hundreds of steps by his father and his Opa, as there was not room in the tram. What I am confused about is if my memory is correct or could it have been another town. We did some traveling and I cannot remember all the places, but I have been trying to describe our adventures to my son, who is now 33 and who was unfortunately at the time too young to know where he was and what he was missing! And also unfortunately most of our photo's have been lost. Sorry to have rambled on so. Perhaps you might find the time to return the e-mail someday.
