  • Even though it is named Milford sound the correct name for these waterways is 'fiord'.
  • A fiord is an ice-carved valley, typically narrow and steep-sided.
  • A fiord has been flooeded by the sea after the galcier's retreat.
  • So technically it should be Milford Fiord not Milford Sound.
