Getting the crown jewel of the San Gabriels is not easy...at least for us. We found the northwest side of Little Baldy (Mt. Harwood)beyond what we feel comfortable hiking. The fifty feet we didn't like traversed a very steep, very open slope with an almost straight drop down a chute for a long, long way. The trail narrowed to skimpy and dangerous...we opted out.
