Thank you for kind and numerous comments on my Philadelphia Zoo album. I think that your D30 was an excellent choice and it would have been mine if I didn’t already own so many Nikkor lenses. In many lenses Sigma is as good as Canon and Nikon for shooting images destined for the Internet, and at a lower price. The Sigma 70-300 APO Macro Super II lens, however, cannot be compared in quality or in price with the Canon EF 70-300 DO IS USM. A more appropriate comparison would be to the Canon EF 75-300 IS USM. The Sigma zoom probably has a little better chromatic aberration control and is cheaper, but the Canon zoom has built in image stabilization which is a tremendous asset for these relatively slow lenses. A more important question is why do you want to a 70-300 zoom? I need it for wildlife shots where I want to get very tight shots and I don’t mind using a tripod (a tripod is needed for a 5.6 aperture at a very low noise 200 ISO). Other than that, I never use it. So, if you’re not going to shoot a lot of wildlife don’t bother with the 70-300. If you are, I would recommend to spend the extra bucks and go for the image stabilized Canon EF 70-300 IS USM. Of course, if you want the best, you’ll have to pay a LOT more for the Canon EF 70-300 DO IS USM. </font>
