Jason from Canada writing... Eleven years ago I turned 25 on this island. Once in a rare while I have a peek on the internet for it to see what's up, whether I can find pictures of Luciano Perez or any of the other faces I might recognize. It's such a remote place that I can't help feel connected to two other people who've written here, and read their words with interest. I came to Nukunonu with my father aboard his sailboat / home. I had even more to learn about life then than I do now. I wish I had been more free, more open, though these are frightening things. I cherish what memories I have of the people on this island. So the final nail in mankinds coffin may well end up being a crayon in the hands of a cartoonist??? Could happen, funny as it sounds. How did thing get so unstable? So insecure. I believe theres another way but I have no education formal and would need help. Ive been living on a boat more than 15 year and have been in more cylons in the south pac than I can remember, so I tend to be forced, (alway grudgingly) twords the matter of fact stance. A difficult proposition when dealing with thought especialy ones own. What does one do when one cannot escape the storm? In animals (I live in one of those) like wolfs for example, mostly functional, gregarious, playful etc. However, put that animal in a cgae alone and the agony will drive it to madness. I see society as many incaged in ideas formed through life experience (conditioning???), ideas of self, and isolated by ideas of others. Worse everything in the society seems to reinforce both the fears and the ego fantasies to overcom them. I think their are certain needs that wisdom can never sate, Tell the wolf his lonelyness is a selfcentered activity. Will he take comfort in ideas or anti ideas as do these enlightened folks, K, among them. Man suffers because he should, still in the big picture namely the evolution of "intelligent life" on earth should mankind cease using his intellect in futherence of the ambitions of an animal? We try to use "intellect" (abstract) to deal with sensations (chemical/physical). I see a future where in a pills for loneliness, seperation anxiety and everthing else will make us able to focus on more important activities, like GDP, and paying off credit cards, and buying cars that get really shitty gas milage. I dont like riding on a ship thats headed for disaster, it's espeacialy troubling for one with captains papers, one does'nt have the merciful comfort zone of ignorence or the luxury of hope. What men are lacking is not wisdom, it's purpose. Mount the horse, draw the blade and all the trouble of you will not be able to keep pace. We live in a society devided by ideas, we have no tribe to defend, we slave to defend and finance a lie called who we are and want to be. There is no trust, and those succeed do so because they've learned not to. I did many street interviews about five years ago, there is a concensus on the thing I just said, there is a solution too but no one as of yet has laid a foundation to that, nor, especially has anyone or any movement taken the necessary stand against the world. One should not rationalise ones problem by subscribing them to an external source however. PS, So ten people, strangers all meet at a cafe. They all talk about this and that. then drive home.....only, they all feel they've made a fool of themselves so while driving home they fantasize, they rerun a scenario in there head where in they say thing differently. Woulda coulda shoulda. Trying to fix the discomfort of having made a fool of themselves. Lets then have them all meet again only this time they discuss the actual activities that went on in their heads. Basically talking in their heads to images they had of the others. In the course of this dialogue there's allot of, "Oh, you do that? I do that too." And in the course of this dialogue the fear they had at the first meeting dissapates and gives way to another sentiment entirely. That sentiment is the only path to security, it not curing the symtoms of it's absents must be made a priority, even by goverments. The abuility for this planet to sustain the psychosis of man is diminishing, man lacks the capacity to resolve this. That truth is not a comfortzone it has eluded his grasp.
