Album Description:
Silk from China and spices and precious stones from India were traded through Central Asia, on a regular basis, from about 200 B.C. Names such as Samarkand, Bukhara conjure up images of fairy tales that start with 'Once upon a time...'

Dear Suresh. As you know, my tour to Japan was planned more than 6 months ago. My flight left Tel-Aviv to Japan with Uzbekistan airways that gave us a reasonabe deal, but with a few hours stop for conection in Tashkent. Japan was my main reson for my trip, but I tought that it is an opportunity to visit this country for few days on my way back home. Uzbekistan is a very interesting place to visit, but in my point of view , she should not be a slice of cake - but a cake for hereself. So with my short visit to Uzbekistan , I have a feeling that I was missing some of my cause for the visit......I came un prepared to this country with not reading enough and not ready to the big change between my country, a total western country and Japan, a super modern place. The short tour in Uzbekistan was a journy back in time for me.....The feeling is that the communist reign is still there. The police is on position every few K"M on the way from Tashkent to Smarkand. The 280 k"m way from Tashkent to Smarkand took me 5 hours, as the road was not perfect.....The people look very relaxed, but very poor.....Samarkand is very intersting, but there is almost no normal retaurant there for tourists.....I know I will have to come again for a longer tour to Buchara and Chiva one day my friend. Thank you for your short note . RAN

Dear Suresh, I have spent a wonderful two + hours viewing this captivating album as a slideshow and individual study of each photo and your detailed descriptions. I have come to the conclusion that you must spend hours of study in preparation for your travels so that you can capture the very essence of the area and a people in only a manner in which a very learned man could do. Whether you take your photographs as a remembrance of your travels or with the purpose in mind of sharing them for the edification of others, you are indeed creating a legacy for your grandchildren. I could have left comments on so many more photos than I did, for each one is special in it's own right. This album is truly a masterpiece. Thank you for sharing. Carol, Florida

Suresh, your pictures are wonderful and brought back many wonderful memories. I lived in Iran from 1969 - 1979, and spent time in the Caspian Sea region, often visiting the Turkoman Market days, where rugs, horses and other items were traded, many of these items being brought from the areas around Samarkand.(the Turkoman horse was a specific breed, small in size, but able to travel long distances) Being a nomadic people, the Turkomans traveled back and forth from Iran. (much to the frustration of the Gov. which wanted to confine them to settlements. There are many similarities between the cultures, and the beauty of Iran. Thank you for sharing. Dear Suresh, aap kase hai? (sorry if i mutilated the spelling, only know a handful of hindi phrases)This was such a fascinating tour of Uzbekistan, and have definetly tantalized me into wanting to visit. I love the fact that they are in the process and have restored many of their historical buildings, and mosques so that the stories and art can still live on and thrive! The detail in many of the buildings are so intricate and beautiful, both mosaic and painted. Loved the detail especially captured in Samarkand! Portraits of the people are so endearing and really capture the passion for their culture beautifully. Heartwarming pride for their country. Wonderfully presented as always with superb quality. Turly enjoyed my private tour and enjoyed reading your informative captions. Many thanks for sharing and also a warm thank you for visiting and commenting on my recent feature, so much appreciated. Take care and blessings to your family, respect and smiles, amy

Hi Suresh, thank you very much for your wonderful messages about 3 weeks ago. As always I appreciate your comments very much. Thanks for your kind words as a very experienced (WOW) grandfather to me as brand-new grandmother! :-) I like this album! It is so very typical for you. The people pictures are extraordinary! You are so very good at this! The cover picture is remarkable! Some years ago one of our doctors visited in Samarkand as a part of an educational program for for the medical staff there. She came back with a lot of slides which showed the same motives as your pictures. Your pictures are much more alive much more professional. I just remember how large and high and most impressive those buildings were. You decorated those buildings with more people and more wonderful details. I love that. Have a wonderful day! My dear friend Suresh, finally I had time enough to study this very interesting and beautiful album of yours! It's not an album to just quickly show. I'm again so impressed by your great work. You do have the skill to make albums that catch both the eye and the interest for the culture and country. I must admit I didn't know much about Uzbekistan, and I'm so impressed about the way you are able to tell about the people, the history, the architecture, the culture. Really amazing! Your photos are gorgeous, I really enjoyed this tour around. The people there are so talented, it touched and impressed me deeply to learn they still do the silk, embroidery etc. with the old, good methods. I so much admire people like them! A very very interesting album, Suresh, thanks for sharing. I'm also very happy to hear you were so warmly welcomed by those friendly people. Thanks for sharing the wonderful photos of the people too, they are beautiful indeed. I wish you and your wife all the best and many many fantastic trips to come! I hope the heat is not taking too much of your energy, my friend, please take care of yourselves. Lots of greetings from all my heart, hugs and love, your Finnish friend Salla

Dearest Suresh, In my imagination I could only visualise the caravans laden with silks and spices from India and China. I thought I knew what the palaces looked like but you have, yet again, awakened my mind with images that have opened my eyes and made me stop to look one more time. I am amazed how well you have captured the country Suresh. Your work is like a story book, filled with amazing pictures and a documentary so educational, so entertaining and so inspiring. From the beautifully adorned camel (with no place to go), to the awesome minarets, the amazing domes of the mosques, the incredible art displayed in the architecture, the ornate designs (and the colour), the amazing palaces and the ceramic art - you have done well. The images of the locals were just brilliant. You have certainly captured personality, mystery, joy and life. To hear that the locals were so friendly and warm and happy to have their photos taken is truly projected by the images. The toothless old lady in the market with the bread was captured with perfection. The elderly gentlman, the young newlywed,I could go on and on and rave about each photograph individually. I want to say that I am truly impressed and as always Suresh, your work is impeccable. Congratulations on an album that is breathtaking and beautiful. Ann (Australia)

Suresh Bhai Namashkar!! You are surely getting to be another Marco Polo with your foot steps girdling the globe! It's truly a great album to go through. I enjoyed every pic because I was there way back in 1994! I couldn't make it to Khiva or the Ferghana valley. I wonder if you got to see the Tashkant Metro? The fools still do not allow it to be photographed - a hang over from the days of the Iron Curtain! Another place I found conspicously absent from your album was the trip to the Amir Bukhara's palace - now a museum. I loved Samarkand with it's clean air, sprawling green belts and grape bunches hanging tantalizingly over the side walks!! Thanks for sharing. Where are you bound next? Regards & Jai Ramji ki! HAPPY to see your return Suresh!!!! It's a pleasure looking again at your shots from the world of fables! Samarcanda (Samarkand) is in Italy like a magic city (we have also an old song who talk about it) and look at it with your eyes and your camera is a gift, a surprise and a TRUE PLEASURE! My THANKS for this virtual visit and for all your interesting and useful comments that are like a tourist book, but also like a window over the life in this country. Photos are, as usual in your albums, really great and with a perfect balancing between lights and shadow. A collection of many excellent perpectives and FANTASTIC people portraits! My favorite shots are 2, 6, 7 (wonderful perspective), 14, 22, 23, 24 (What EXCELLENT series of portraits!!), 35, 36, 40, 44, 48, 54, 59, 62 and 76. A BIG number of shots for sure, but the album is FANTASTIC! MY THANKS and my CIAO !!!! Ruggero

Suresh, my friend! This is truly an exceptional album, though I knew it would be a special experience visiting Uzbekistan, one of the places I most wish to go, with your eyes for architecture and people, and, of course, your great knowledge. You have created here a really amazing, rich and fascinating portrait of this country. The jaw-dropping splendor of the Registan, the mosques and madrassas is very well captured through your compositions. Your narrating is as excellent as ever, and I appreciate it greatly. So many facts and fairy tales about history and culture which make the tour much more interesting, sometimes surprising and amussing. It sounds just like you were a trained as a tourist guide for Uzbekistan all your life. Of course, I just loved your portraits of Uzbeki peole and your wonderful comments, which often rase a smile, but always written with respect and affection. Now I'm ever so sure that I should visit Uzbekistan!! Especially as you describe how friendly, and camera friendly, the locals are. Maybe I should deep my knowledge of Indian film music :-) I know very little of it. Thank you for taking us on this incredible tour. Best wishes! Orly

Ah, Suresh! Samarkand, city of fairy tales. Beautiful album with so much explanation, often lacking in the albums of other Webshots members. I like the friendly Mullah, and I wonder about the elaborate staue in this muslim country.

Hello Suresh! This is a marvelous album. Every photo tells a story of an exotic place filled with beautiful people. I am mesmerized by the beauty, and love the character in the faces of the people, especially the elderly craftsman. A great job, and thank you for this peek at such an interesting place. Warm greetings, Beth

Dear Suresh, Oh my Friend, what a fantastic professional reportage! I have to prepare my next trip but stayed near a complete day in Your fabulous images; I see that You have adopted the way of insertion people images and all the photos are pure marvels able to figure in the best geopolitical publications; The Mullah perfumer in #14,the stunning face of an elder man in #22 (what has been his life? What did he saw and experienced to get such marks of life? The result is the expression of infinite experience and wisdom; Congratulations for that two absolute masterpieces! Also the delicious smiling old woman selling bread, a feeding mother image, an image of life! I loved also the angle of shot 33, the master in ceramic paintings, the colours of the Suzhanis woman seller, the professional portraits in #54 & 69 and the very artistic portrait of an old artist as beautiful as a real painting in #57; That for the Suresh People Show, a magic one; For all the album, I have been captivated by the rich and instructive comments in the captions, the one telling the story of the kebab smelling to pay & and the coin sound response is a lesson! For architectural pictures, my preferred for sometimes for the subject itself with quality picture and sometimes for the shot perfection in angles and composition are fabulous Registan #2, Sher-door Madrassa #8, angle and sky in #9, Ulug-Beg in #10, the amazing canopy ceiling in #15, the roof details in #17, the Shahi-Zinda domes in #19, the orthodox Russian churches in #28, the nice clouds at rear in #44,the Devon Madrassa in #55, the astounding city walls in Bukhara in #66 and more in Khiva in #74,#75 that are more impressive than the Syrian Alepo ones or perhaps Jaisalmer in India; The Khiva minaret is also a wonder in #76; I have noted the rare presence of statues for Islam culture in photo #11 very instructive; The wall slabs in #81 make me without breath; You finish this marvel in music attesting Your love of Life; Thank You Master Suresh for the awesome trip on the silk road and congratulations from the deepest of my brain; Please delete the precedent message unfinished and sent by a wrong clic, Jacques
