  • Dear Ragtime Bob-- What can you tell me about Devil's Island? Who owns it? Am I correct that Devil's Island is also listed as Island 21 on some maps? I would appreciate any information you could give me on these pictures and this island. I believe this is the sand bar that the Rev. Daniel Butrick, who traveled on the Trail of Tears with the Cherokee, wrote about in his 1839 journal. A ferry took the detachment over to the sandbar, where they experienced gale winds. Another ferry came over from Bainbridge, Missouri, and picked them up. It took quite a while to get the approximate l000 in the Richard Taylor detachment across.
