A local ploughboy ancient Whittlesey Fenland Festival. Some of the pictures are not as good as I would have liked but it was a very dull and gloomy day

    • Hi Ken, Your Photos are great! Even if you think they aren't. We all are often enough victims of circumstances. Now The Straw Bear Festival. That's really interesting! Trough I don't understand a whole lot. What is that all about? Looks to me like a mix between the US American Halloween and Mardi Grass, the Central- and South American Carnaval and the Mexican Day of the Dead. I believe it has something to do with Fat Thursday, Good Friday and Ash Wednesday. [The Easter Molly's] Dos it? Thanks for your nice entries in my GB. If there is a bug conspiracy you beat us to it. You introduced the two bugs. Now the are close friends. Hug Carolynn for me. Warm Mex-bug hugs Heidi

    • G'day Ken - I've had great fun watching all these great characters, dancers, ploughs and listening to the carnival sounds flying off these shots. I've learned a heap about a festival I hadn't heard of before - and your captions and comments added a lot to the experience. I do hope the ploughboys ended up with enough $$ to tide them over the winter ;> Thanks a million! ((hugs)) Lorraine - Australia

    • Doodlebugs up? O.k. then I'll shoot. First my dear friend must not be afraid of American "das U-boot", next time I'll be more careful with my wording, sorry. Dankeschoen for cracking me up again this morning with these photos! Reminds me of the native costumes of the new guinea tribes I looked at in Rustedguitarman albums last night. GOD Webshots is a great place, ain't it???? Have a funtastic day!!! Marita

    • Hi Ken, this is certainly an interesting and informative album. It doesn't matter that the day was gloomy, there's plenty of colour and life in your photos. Thanks for your kind words on my Gumnuts album, they were appreciated. For what it's worth, I have a wicked sense of the ridiculous, and believe a point can be made as well through humour as an ernest rant. Keep up the good work, cheers, Keith.

    • Hi Ken! I am sure you had a great time at the Festival in spite of the dull weather. I found it interesting to learn about the Straw Bear Festival and enjoyed seeing the colourful costumes. Well done. Thankyou for your kind words and I hope you find my calendars useful. As for the Blog -- keep writing, if you have something on your mind, then stick to it! Just wish it wasn't so time-consuming to read. Best wishes.. Gladys.

    • Hi Ken, and thank you for your entry in my "Brooksville Raid" album. I agree with you that these reenactments are fun and thank goodness some care to be involved or we'd never get the feelings of earlier times. BTW, I watched a 45-min. online video of the Battle of Trafalgar last summer when a fellow we know was on the US Eagle Tall Ship in Europe for the affair. ... Yes, we'll take care in "all this sunshine"; it was 82 today with a forecast high of ONLY 67 tomorrow. *grin* ... Keep Carolynn warm! Judy

    • Hello Ken. Very entertaining your album of 'The Straw Bear Festival'. So many troupes.... I love to attend these kind of festivals. They're such fun and it looks like you had a grand time with all the many photos you got despite the poor weather. I'm so glad that these traditions don't die out...I am thinking of posting an album called 'Post Boxes from around the World'. As I have a passion for ours, I think I'd find it fascinating to see how they look further afield. So I shall be asking for help, obviously with this project. Can I use your yellow post box from Cyprus? The credit will go to you naturally. Let me know? Cheers, Jayne xx

What a fun album, and a fun festival. Please send me album invites to my regular email address, not the Yahoo address. I'd really appreciate it. Love n hugs, The old biddy, Sharon

    • Good morning Ken and what a delightful 'tour' I've had of your "Straw Bear Festival." What fun!!! I haven't been over to Epcot at Disneyworld in a number of years but at the British display they had dancers - I don't think they were "Mollies" though. Their costumes were covered with buttons - hundreds of them. Anyway, I hope you had as much fun taking these shots as I have looking through them, closely I might add. Have a good day and if I'm truly first in the album I'll be shocked. After WS' major overhaul I expected this place would be 'jumping'. Take care, Judy

    • Hi Ken and Carolynn. What a fun festival this looks like. The Black and White dancers are interesting some of the makeup No. 7 and 8. looks like the members of the rock band Kiss. LOL. It's great how these traditions last on and the story behind them doesn't die out. Love and Hugs or hogs? Chris and Jay
