Album Description:

On January 1st, 2006 the town of Junee was surrounded by fire. The efforts of townsfolk and volunteer firefighters averted a disaster. This is what I found when I visited a few weeks later. The first 3 shots are not my workbut used with permission.

  • Keith so sad to see such destruction.Your photos are heartbreaking but to have taken them is a record of what the people ,amimals and wild life went through because of the fire. You see it on the TV with fires that ruin peoples lives around the world. Take care. Eva/Scotland.

  • What a great devastation, each day the news on tv show us this incredible destruction. Great report on this subject Keith.

  • A burned out country, over 7000 homeless people and 1000 homes lost, not to mention the animals, domestic and native wild. People unable to comprehend what has happened to their homes, the damage done to young minds at the devastation not to mention the many people in the rural brigade of fire fighters putting their lives at risk, all the result of a warped mind, who thought it was good to look at. If caught they should put them in jail for life. Thanks Keith but I didn't need a reminder I can smell the smoke over Melbourne it is that close. Good album to remind others of what happens when a country burns... Hugs, Shirley

  • Ironic considering what is going on now . This seems to be happening every few years in Australia and California . Some sick people starting fire , devastation .

  • Oh Keith, Thanks to God that you're ok, What a relief!..We are getting almost hourly photo-reports on the TV, and it is heartbreaking to see the devastation and loss of life and property. If possible, it is made more dreadful to be told that there was deliberate arson involved too. Awful... You were very brave to bring these eye opening pictures to us, and I thank you for making the effort. Again, so ppleased you're alright, Take care, dear friend, and may you soon get the needed rain to cool everything down again. God bless and keep you, Sheila.

  • Wow Keith, what an amazing album. Fire is so frightening. And it goes so fast. Reference to the fires in California even now. Rosie

  • Keith: This certainly was a very well-done photo-essay of the disaster. I hope the people of Junee & the surrounding countryside have recovered somewhat from the loss, and that no one lost their lives. Pete Harter

  • Hi Keith - what an experience. It must have been a daunting task for those attempting to save the remnants of nature. You last photo depicting the 'before' really expresses the danger and force of fire leaving a totally barren, desolated picture. An amazing feature and a great album. Best wishes and many thanks for the GB entry on my SA birds. Sue, RSA

  • Hi Keith! This is a very graphic portrayal of the power of Fire. The Blackened Stumps really show the devastation resulting from this careless act, especially liked the unusual shape in #6, and you've captured the colours well. Junee was such a pretty place when you visited earlier, and it is heartbreaking for the people to have to face the long slow road to recovery. Lets hope they have good rains this winter.. Thanks for sharing.. Gladys, Western Australia.

  • Dear Keith! Such a tragic consequence of a moment's carelessness! There is hope, though, as people soldier on in spite of it.The newly-plowed fields show that no one has given up.Thank you for your recording of this event.Take care---Nancy
