Hi Orly, I enjoyed visiting another beautiful album of your that presents the various faces of Jerusalem. I'm glad you put a mural as your cover picture as you know that I like the murals of Jerusalem and hopefully one day I'll create an album of them. It was very interesting to virtually visit Jerusalem on Friday. I usually avoid visiting there on that day since the city is very crouded. Thanks fos sharing another beautiful album with all of us. Take care, Yair.

As an outsider found this album both moving and disturbing, because in my ignorance I had no idea how strong the religious influence is in Jerusalem although I suppose I should have guessed. But having gone right through, looking at every photo, I can well understand how upsetting you must have found it to be treated as you were on that occasion. On the pictorial side, you are in the area of photography at which you excel - taking pictures of people, either with or without their permission. It would have taken no small amount of courage on your part to venture in to what is virtually a prohibited area to you and I can only commend you for your persistence. Thank you for showing these photos and they really do bring home to me the way in which different cultures of the world are so influenced by their religions. We out here must seem like a load of old agnostics to you! Hugs, Peter

Orly, in the early seventies I used to have summer jobs in Jerusalem's westside restaurants, Sova, Goldsmith, and others. I used to get a cultural shock crossing from Damascus gate to Jaffa street. I also worked for a typography, a small print house owned by a religious radical Jewish family. I remember the owner (and his young son) used to treat me very good, and he used to give me more money than was contracted, and was surprised that he would simply entertain the idea of employing a non-Jew. I was only 15 at the time, and the first time I stepped in the shop I was so scared of these people that I wanted to quit the next day. What I want to say is that "different" people can be wrongly judged by their appearance, or stereotyped by actions that some of them commit against others who do not look like them. The incident with the pants should not discourage you from visiting again. I think it was cool that somebody gave you a skirt and even accepted to take a picture of you. Besides, you are in Jerusalem, people look for fights, and if they cannot fight the other guys, they will fight with their own. Life goes on.

I love the pictures, especially this one. What I find even more interesting is the comments. I never did realise that Mea Shearim was secluded to this extent.

Orly, your visit to Me'a She'arim has left me with amazement, pain and disbelief. I would have never thought that something like this existed in the present times. Though many orthodox muslims do behave in an isolationistic way, this is the first time I have heard of this happening in Jerusalem. Your pictures, captions and experiences truly leave me with sadness. Children should move around in the world, be amazed, learn and smile often. May be I am over reacting! Frankly, this is the first time I have heard of the Haredim. So much for my world knowledge!!! It is good that you ended your album with some smiling faces of the children. It is such a relief. Orly, this is a fabulous album with a message. One rarely comes across such gems in Webshots. Best wishes, Suresh

Hi Orly, back home after a 4 day journey far away from any computer, I've just found your message and your album. You've done a pretty good job, this is not surprising. This is indeed a very nice and very interesting album and I can feel what you described in your last mail by looking at the corresponding shots. I've always refrained from entering Me'a She'arim myself, though I've been to Jerusalem several times. I will come back to look again at some of your pics, will be glad to let my traces under some of them. Take care, Gerard

Orly, I'm watching this quickly from the airport, but what a wonderfully interesting album you've created! I've been totally captured by it. It's so alive and vibrant... sad, yes, but it's better to know than to stay ignorant (as I was). Thanks, Roberto

Dear Orly, I'm finding it hard to put into words just what viewing this album means to me. I viewed each one slowly reading all your wonderful comments and learnt so much I was totally unaware places like this still exist. The faces of the children say it all Those that are so scared they run away from you and those that ask for their pictures to be taken. I will remember this album for a long time and I think thats the biggest compliment I can give it. Thank you for using your photographic skills to show us so much more through your pictures than words can say.Thank you so much too for your recent visits to my GB's I'm so busy out taking pictures right now as the weather is so good that I find it hard to keep up with everyone but I do try. Take care now Jill

This is an amazing album, Orly, not only in your descriptions but in the dramatic difference right down to color between the two places. The differences from fear and mistrust to open smiles, I cant even begin to describe the varying feelings as I travelled through your album. Thank you for such a stunning documentary...peace, claudia
