Great pictures! I love the covered bridges and old mills. They are a great pice of our American history and make wonderful settings for pictures. Thanks Harry C.

I forgot to mention there used to be 37 Covered Bridges in Parke County. You just gotta see this county and all the projects they do throughout the year, from cars, motorcycles, etc. May God Bless.

I forgot to tell you I am from around Springfield, Illinois and it was about a three plus hour trip. Want to get your motel reservations in way, way early. One year we had to drive back and forth from Lafayette and that was a real pain to lose all that time driving to and from the motel, when you could have been standing in a covered bridge or enjoying one of the activities that the community provided. I now live in southwest Nebraska (not the end of the world, but you can see it from here) and the trip now would be 15-16 hours. I hope to return someday to relive some of the memorable moments we shared with the people of Parke County, Rockville, Indiana. This is one place you just gotta put on your "to do" list folks. check out their web site and pick your time. The busiest will probably be the Covered Bridge Festival in October. May God Bless.

WOW! Someone after my own heart! When I was growing up one of the thrills was to go to the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival "Covered bridge capital in the world" in Parke County, Rockville,Indiana every October. I do not know how my folks found this place, but we all truly enjoyed this every year. Why we even went to the Maple Syrup Festival in March I believe. Not only were the covered bridges a thrill, but the festivals with their homemade Persimmon ice cream, Cruellers (sp), apple butter making, crafts on the town square, people dressed in "old-fashioned" clothes. They even have a web page. They used to have four "color" routes that you could go on by guided bus tour or you could simply drive the routes yourself. So I know we went a minimum of four years running so we could go on each of the routes. The people there are just an awesome group of people and really made it exciting with all the neat things they provided. After I married, my husband had a chance to go through Rockville in 1976 and even brought me back a souvenir of a plaster replica of the Billie Creek Bridge. Many of the briges you have photographed I have STOOD on. It was an awesome experience to feel like you were able to go back in time to when they were built. I even have found a site where you can watch them rebuild one of the bridges and that was very good as well. Of all the places our parents took us in 37 states, I have got to say this was the most often visited and enjoyed by all 5. The Maple Syrup Fair is in Feb-Mar this year. You go by wagons back ito their camps, you can even have breakfast with "fresh" maple syrup. But they also have other events throughout the year, car shows, art, harvest, ice cream social, just to mention a few. Just a place you got to check out on the web and in person. I know a lot of things have changed since I have not been back there since 1966. No I am not getting paid for this. This folks is from my past experience and memories. I am so glad someone shares my love for covered bridges. May God Bless.

Since I live in Indiana, these got my attention. We've been to Billie Creek Village several times and I've taken pretty much the same shots.I just never get tired of seeing them. It's really a shame about the Bridgeton Bridge. I'm glad we saw it before it was destroyed.I noticed that you took a picture of the same tree that I did.(the one hanging over the road at the McCallister Bridge). We always go in the fall, so it didn't have any leaves on it. I told my husband to stop the car. His reply was "please tell me you're not going to take a picture of a dead tree". But I did and he still teases me about it. So now I can show him your picture and tell him that someone else saw the beauty in it too! Your photos are awesome..keep on shooting!

Hi Sharon! I don't know how many covered bridges they have but I think you must have got most of them. Are they still used by cars or aren't they that solid anymore?. Thanks for the invitation and give my regards to the caddie please. Hugs mate Al
