  • Hello Lydia. Our names aren't what we'd always choose for ourselves, are they! Janice doesn't attend church at West Ashton now (she lives in Hilperton), but helps run a local authority Pre-School which is held in St. Johns' sister church's hall in Trowbridge (St. Thomas). Complicated, I know! I've yet to add the harvest photos to the album and will do that as soon as I can. Best wishes, Penny.

  • I certainly do remember Janice, although I didn't know she and Dorothy were related. How nice to know that she is still so actively involved in the church. My middle name used to be Penelope, but I removed it when I applied for my new surname. My father hasn't forgiven me for giving up on such a classical name!

  • p.s. I'm Penelope and I have a sister named Frederica - classical names, as is yours! Penny

  • Hello and thank you for the information, Lydia. No, Mrs. Hillier doesn't teach Sunday School now, but her niece who now teaches at St. Thomas Church Pre-School used to go with her and help teach Sunday School - she's the one who remembers you. She said you'd probably not remember her, you were only little! Her name is Janice. I'll certainly pass on your regards. I don't know whether Mrs. Hillier is still with us. The congregation is very small now at West Ashton with only the odd few children - most families attend the "sister" church of St. Thomas' in Trowbridge. Yes, Harvest Festival at a village church is lovely. I believe the painting and decorating of the church is complete now and services are being held again in church. Bye, Penny. :)

  • My sister's names are Xanthe and Fenella. People tend to remember what strange names we have.... Harvest festival, how lovely, the Lutheran church really does not do that as well as I'd like. Mrs Stacey (former head and then Mayor) used to do it so well. Mrs Hillier is still teaching Sunday school? I'm surprised, but happy to hear that. She's a very special person, please send her my love.

  • Hello Lydia. I'm pleased you enjoyed the album. Marlene Pike asked whether you'd seen them when I saw her at service last Sunday, Harvest Festival. I've photos from the service and will post them later. The church is being decorated so the service was held in the school hall. By chance, I mentioned the album to one of the ladies who teaches pre-school at my church - she said she grew up in West Ashton and remembers teaching you in Sunday School, along with the Aunt. She and Marlene could remember one of you sister's names but not the other. :)

  • Thank you so very, very much. That really brought back many memories (most of the positive!). I shall certainly be coming back to view them again.
