'It is one of the safest places in the world as far as Terrorism, there are special police everywhere with dogs and special equipment on guard much unlike London where the Bobbies don't even have guns incase they are attacked' ???     • It is just like NYC (except there are over 14 million) only with mosques instead of churches. The traffic is crazy and there are no elevators. People walk accross 12 lane highways were the speed is 50 miles an hour. The hills in the city here make the hills in San Fransisco look like speed bumps. Lots of gypsies on the subway playing music and dancing, it's awesome to watch. On the streets you see men in drag, people walking down the street smoking a joint within eyeshot of police. There are sharp shooters on buildings to prevent terrorism. The police in this city are a very visible presence, probably one cop to every 20 people and they will shoot to kill and ask questions later. Just to get into the mall ( malls are everywhere, that's where everyone shops, groceries, everything) you have to have your belongings x-rayed and you have to walk through a metal detector. Taksim Square, is lined with 500 year old buildings, beautiful buildings with Roman, Arab, Greek, French, Baroque influence. We visited a 1000 year old Catholic church (San Antuan, turkish for St. Anthony) that still gives daily masses in Turkish and English, yes there are Catholic Turks. Many of the embassies are lined along this street. It is one of the safest places in the world as far as Terrorism, there are special police everywhere with dogs and special equipment on guard much unlike London where the Bobbies don't even have guns incase they are attacked. But the crime rate and personal safety on the streets is not good. Gypsies rob you blind.
