Album Description:
In the bibel, the dead sea ( Or as we call him here in Israel "The salt sea)is known as the "eastern sea" or the " sea of ARAVA". Greeks and Romans called it " Mare asphalititus"meaning the "clay sea" during to the patches of the clay.

In the Bibel, the dead sea is known as the "eastern sea' or the "sea of Arava". The ancient Greeks and the Romans called it " Mare Asphaltitus", meaning the " cly sea", due to patches of clay , or asphalt floating on the surface. Later on, since life in this body of water was deemed impossible, it was dubbed the " dead sea" and this terms was adopted by various Europian languages. The dead sea region offers a rare combination of nature sites, history and unique healing centers. The dead sea , at 417 meters ( 1378 ft') below the sea level , is the lowest point on the surface of earth. The water salinity , with a concentration of about 340 grams per liter, ( 10 times that of the mediterranean!!!) makes floating natural. No life what so ever is in the highly salty water. The air is very dry , rich in oxygen and free of any environmental pollution , and the temperatures are relatively high , even in height of winter.

Dear Ran, I have only a few minutes, so I will return later to see all of your photos. I know I will enjoy my 'second' visit to this beautiful and mystifying part of our world. When the Bible tells us of people "wandering in the wilderness," most do not picture this in their minds. Did you try to swim in the Dead Sea while you were there? *smile* ... I must run but I will surely return. ... Hugs, Judy

Dear Ran, this is a very impressive album. You did a great work with these photos. It must be very difficult to take those wide sand and salt areas in a way that the observer recognizes its endless extension. You did it. I especially love the contrast between the blue sky and the salt built mountains - and the sea, finally. Also I like the pictures of the birds that come for a bath and drink. Lovely. Thank you for sharing these pictures; it was a very new and fine experience to watch this album. Greetings from Vienna, Vera

THe desert life well captured in your collection Ran. A very different wilderness, land often just nothing there. Have visited the place and even had a swim. Funny you just could't dive, of course for the salt to the eyes but also because it is impossible to do it. A funny feeling to try to swim. Thanks for the invitation Ran, and thanks for the nice memories from those years long already gone. Have a nice weekend - Antti

Hello Ran! Judea desert is vast, desolate and beautiful. I love wide open places be it a meadow or a desert; it gives a feeling of unlimited freedom. The dead sea is like an oasis, like a jewel. The contrast comes through so well in your photographs. I enjoyed the album very much. It scores by juxtapositioning one environment against the other. Great album! Best wishes, Suresh

How wonderful this new album of yours is, Ran, the Judea Desert being of monumental importance. The Dead Sea is something I shall never see in my own lifetime but seeing it here is almost as good thanks to your photos. Thanks so much for your invitation, Ran. Most appreciated, Leslie

Hi Ran: In younger years -of course later on, too- I was much impressed by the existence of the Dead Sea and read with interest all I could about. You give us with this album a very detailed account and make us live for some time in this unique environment. Thank you for an outstanding report! (Kaethi and) Henri

This is a very beautiful album. The views are wonderful especially from higher up, and the colors of the sea are amazing. It looks like you had a great trip and an enjoyable stay in the Dead Sea area. By the way you forgot to mention the Hebrew name for the Deas Sea - The Salt Sea... Love Tirza

Ran, it's a long time since I visited the Dead Sea and your album reminds me that I should visit there in the near future... It really is a special place with lots of opportunities for photographers. Thanks for sharing this album with us, and for your visit to my new album! I was too late to visit that exhibition, after one of the globes was burnt by a vandal. It seems that some people do not know how to protest in a legal way and choose the violent way to express their opinions. They can never get my support when doing such acts. I wish you a wonderful week! Yair.

Dear Ron, what a wonderful collection of outstanding images you've assembled here, all first class photographs gleaned from many points of views. Your keen eye for the memorable shot is obvious in every frame of this part of the Holly Land. Thanks for your invitation. Manuel

Ran, thank you calling my attention to this album. Deserts have a "light" that forest lack and your photographs of the Judea Desert show this quality.

Hello Ran! Thank you for your visit to my Cambodia album and for the kind comments. Much appreciated. I have not been to Borabador temple; my wife has been there and to Angkor Wat. She tells me Angkor Wat is bigger and better preserved. The Borabador temple is older, 8th century, and originally built as a Buddhist/Hindu temple. I hope you are feeling better now. I wish you full recovery. Best wishes, Suresh
