Wonderful album Yair! I don't know how I've missed it! Superb shots!

Hello Yair, another excellent album of your hand. As I always do with all your albums, I have enjoyed this one very much too. It is a very interesting subject. I loved the pictures of the beautiful mosaic floors, and the way you showed all the tiny details of them. Thanks for sharing, and for your nice comments on my Christmas Cards album. At the moment I am very busy with sorting out the stuff in my parent’s house, which is not the nicest of jobs, and a bit sad. So at the moment I have not much time to take pictures. Also the weather over here is horrible at the moment: stormy and rainy, brrr! My latest album is on my wely246 site: Wintery Moments. According to the calendar it is still Winter, so maybe there is more to come (pictures and wintery moments). Friendly yours, Els (wely246/evanwely)

Very interesting album. No one today can light a candle to those mosaics. I doubt if there's a soul out there that can come close to the beauty and perfection of the floor and wall coverings.

Dear Yair. ( Your forgivnes for coming late...) This is a very good and important album, as it brings out history in one more point of view - and one of the bests. I had been to this place many years ago and to my shame I must admitt that I don't remember much from this place I had to rturen and visit again. Thank you for sharing and publishing this album for the benefit of good photo work and our country. RAN

Yair, this is truly an impressive journey into antiquity; an amalgam of so many cultures and so many civilizations. History cannot get any richer than this! The mosaic and the architectural work mutely, yet explicitly pronounce the artistry and the creativity of those days. Thank you for this wonderful album full of excellent pictures. Best wishes, Suresh

Dear Yair: Fortunately you exist...! What once more a precious history lesson! We (most of us) ignorant people as far as Israel is concerned, we realize deeply impressed what treasures your country offer - no doubt many places that classical tourist tours not even mention them. Thank you for this as always well documented report! - Take care, profit from the weekend!

Dear friend Yair, after the great images of Iceland, you did a very very interesting reportage about an archeological site. You captured the fantastic old atmosphere of this ancient place. The detailed explanation is another great plus for this very well done job. You are a very talented photograper and it's always a pleasure to admire your picture. Hug from Franco

Shalom, Yair. What a nice trip through antiquity. I think the mosaics are older than I am, but not by much.

Hello Yair,I found this album so interesting but there is a lot I don't know! You always amaze me at the knowledge you have, not only your country but other countries. I would say that you make it a point to know about the places that you take pictures of. I am going to check further into Zippori! You would have made a great history teacher to someone like me who likes history as it is all a part of all of us. I thank you again for this history lesson! I wish you a wonderful weekend & take care,my friend!.............Diane

Dear Yair, that is a beautiful historic album about the place which been named by Josephus Flavius as "the jewel of Galilee". In american transcription the city more known as Sepphoris re-built by Herod Antipas for himself and for tetrarch's capitol. Certainly we remember about "Mona Lisa from Galilee" and Roman Theater of Sepphoris but you gave us a chance to look at Decumanus and Cardo. And that is great! Because according by some scholars' suggestions members of Jesus' family or even Jesus Himself in His early adulthhood may have worked on this streets. For me that was very interesting to see such a close-up-look of this place. Well done! Sergio

Dear Yair, A beautiful and very informative album but then it wouldn't be an album from you if it wasn't and I always leave your pages with a greater knowledge of your part of the world. I love to visit ancient sites like this and am always staggered how they have stood the test of time and survived so we can enjoy them still. Thanks then for showing us these excellent pictures. Thanks too for stopping by my latest album too and all your kind comments :o) We were lucky to be in the Lakes on one of those rare perfect days and I took many more pictures than I shared as you can imagine. Take care now Yair, Jill

Yair, thanks again for another history lesson and sharing your pictures. Hard to imagine that these ancient sites still exist for all to see, after so many invasions and wars in the last few thousand years in your country. Someone once said ''Life is short, but art lives forever'' Your pictures are a testament to that. ...#####, Canada

Hi Yair, I am honored to be the first person to comment on this beautiful and interesting album. The musaics are very beautiful. I saw an exhibit of Roman musaic at the Getty's villa (the musaic came from Tunisia), it had very similar images except from the jewish images in the temple. Thanks for sharing. Tirza

Zippori was established during the First Temple period. The city, with its mainly Jewish inhabitants, developed during the Hasmonaen and Herodian periods (1st century BCE). Zippori was spared from destruction in 70 CE, as its citizens refrained from joining the revolt. Following the destruction of the Second Temple, Zippori soon became a Jewish center of learning, with many rabbis, sages and priests dwelling here. During the presidency of Rabbi Judah Hanasi, the Sanhedrin moved to Zippori, where the Mishna was compiled in approximately 200 CE. During the Roman period, Zippori became one of the most important cities in the country, and served as capital of the Galilee. This was due, mainly to its topography, the availablility of spring water, the fertile soil in the vicinity and its proximity to important trade routes. Zippori was then called Diocaesarea). The city, with its varied communities, continued to flourish during the Byzantine period and the beginning of the Arab period. During the crusader period, it was called La-Safouri, when a castle and the curch of St. Anne were build. Later, a large Arab village called Saffuriye was build on the ruins of the ancient city. The village was conquered during the War of Independence. In 1949 Moshav Zippori was founded, bearing the original name of the city.
