Sant Llorenç de la Muga

Sant Llorenç de la Muga is a town in the Alt Emporda comarca, in Girona province, Catalonia, Spain with an area of 32,06km2 and its population of 177 people. Located on the High Valley of Muga river, surrounded by mountains, where woods are from pines, oaks and holms. Cereals, vineyards and olive trees are mainly grown.

Walled town (XIV - XV c.), walls still conservated, in almost a triangle form, it is formed by four towers and three entrance doors. The Battle of San-Lorenzo de la Muga (French: St-Laurent, also Battle of the Sierra Negra or Battle of the Black Mountain) was fought from 17 to 20 November 1794, and resulted in the victory of French under General Perignon and General Dugommier, who fell in the battle, against the Spanish under General Union.
