DEMOLISHED Masonic Temple - Downtown Hammond

Album Description:

Since 1921 a huge, majestic Masonic Temple stood on the corner of Muenich Ct. & Anne Ave. in downtown Hammond. The city decided it cost too much to refurbish and repair over a decade of neglect. It came down in 2009 to make way for a new charter school.

    • Hello all! According to The Times, as of June 19th this building is in the beginning stages of demolition. I hope to be able to document this when I head back to Hammond at the beginning of July. Regards, Alex

    • My old boss, Ray Woomer was a proud member of the Masonic Temple in Hammond. He spoke proudly of that building during the 70's. So sad that this building is being neglected.

    • Good photos aj. I remember this building but many have forgotten it. It's ashame they're going to demolish this part of history. I myself have moved from Hammond so I'll be posting some new albums on my site if I can get Webshots to work on my new Internet provider...I've been having some problems. Take care and may God bless. feldman112

    • The city of Hammond has owned this property for over 10 years and has let it sit and rot. They have done nothing to maintain the building and now will rip it down so they can construct a building in its place that will be the exact same size. The masonic temple is a fantastic building that will be lost because of the carelessness and neglect of the city of Hammond.
