Mary Ann, I enjoyed very much my walk in this wonderful marble museum of an island: Romblon. My favorites have to be the dolphin statues, various sea animals and the one piece figures that seem to be dancing. You must have been thrilled walking through the stalls. Thanks very much for sharing. I would not have much chance of seing this island have you not presented it in WS for all the world to see. Great job, my friend!

Marble mining in Romblon was recorded to have started since the early 1900's. However, it was only after World War II that the importance of marble was given due attention and introduction to the market. With various lively colors combined with the intricate natural art lines and shades, Romblon's marble easily transforms into an exotic material that is suitable and attractive for the construction industry. To further strengthen and boost the marble industry in Romblon, the government funded and assisted a marble common service facility that was formed in Romblon in 1998 and was subsequently completed after a year. Now with computerized cutting tools and sophisticated polishing machines from Italy, the consumers are well assured of precision and high quality marble tiles. Novelty items manually carved out from marble stones is also a very popular business in Romblon. (Taken from http://www.otopphilippines.gov.ph/microsite.aspx?rid=5&provid=67&prodid=155&sec=2 )
