Precioso album!!!!!

  • Dear Manuel! Every time I see a new album of yours I learn something new and interesting. This castle is impressive; it not only has an ornate facade and ramparts but also houses many exquisite artifacts and paintings. The whole tour with you has been very rewarding. Thank you for the introductory caption. It puts the whole castle in prespective. This is truly a treasure house. Best wishes, Suresh

  • This is a very beautiful and fascinating collection Manuel. I do enjoy your artistic approach and the magnificent architecture in your wonderful images, your work is wonderfully inspiring. I have been buried in work with little time on the net so I apologize for not keeping in touch as much as I would love to. I wish to let you know I am thinking of you and wish you a beautiful day my sweet friend. Aloha, Sharon

  • A stunning album (as always) revealing your "trademark" of artistry and exacting attention to detail that we all love and admire! BTW: Carol has picked up on something a bit unusual for you. You usually post a closeup of a preceding shot immediately following the full capture. Your opening and closing captures keep us on our toes (so to speak)--reminiscent of a musical composition! Would love to see this album featured in the very near future! Un abrazo, Miriam

  • DEAR WS FRIEND & VISITOR: The Castle of Manzanares el Real, also known as the palace-fortress of the Mendoza family, is the best conserved castle in the Madrid region. It was built in 1475 on a Romanesque-Mudejar shrine which is still standing. This structure has large semicircular arched windows, a rectangular courtyard and two galleries supported on octagonal columns. The castle building itself has four turrets at the corners, crowned with decorative balls in the Isabelline style. The castle still belongs to the Duke of Infantado, who has leased it to the Regional Government of Madrid for a period of sixty years. It appears to have been intended for use as a Palace as it has two-tiered galleries built against the walls and porticoed corridors around the central courtyard. The annex extending to the east corresponds to the apse of the shrine which existed on the site before the castle was built. The whole structure is surrounded by a perimeter barbican with a single entrance through a beautiful west-facing gateway, flanked by two sturdy turrets defended by stone parapets. All the walls of the barbican have loopholes in the shape of the Jerusalem Cross, commemorating the fact that the first duke's brother, Cardinal Mendoza, was appointed Cardinal of the Basilica of the Holy Cross of Jerusalem by the Catholic Monarchs in 1480.
