  • Dear Karin! It is always a pleasure to see your pictures. Needless to say, Luzern, Rhein am Stein and Schaffhausen are very beautiful towns; the first with the prominence of the Kappelen Bruecke, the second exuding Swiss ambience, and the third with its amazing and well crafted frescoes and Luftmalereien. Your photography is comprehensive and very appealing. You have done these towns proud. I enjoyed the slideshow. With my very best wishes, Suresh

  • Some info on Schaffhausen (acc. Wikipedia): Schaffhausen is a city in northern Switzerland and the capital of the canton of the same name; it has a population of 34'000. The old portion of the city has many fine Renaissance era buildings decorated with exterior frescos and sculpture, as well as the impressive old canton fortress, the Munot. A train runs out of town to the nearby Rhine Falls in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Europe's largest waterfall, a tourist attraction. Schaffhausen was a city state in the Middle Ages, documented to have struck its own coins starting in 1045. For a time it was under Habsburg domination, but regained its independence in 1415. It allied itself with Zurich in 1457, and became a full member of the Swiss Confederation in 1501. The first railroad came to Schaffhausen in 1857. Schaffhausen is located in a finger of Swiss territory surrounded on three sides by Germany. On April 1, 1944, Schaffhausen suffered a bombing raid by United States Army Air Forces.

  • Some information about Lake of Lucerne (according Wikipedia): Lake Lucerne (German: Vierwaldstättersee, lit. "Lake of the Four Forest Cantons") is a lake in central Switzerland, the fourth largest in the country. The lake is a complicated shape, with bends and arms reaching from the city of Lucerne into the mountains. It has a total area of 114 km² (44 sq mi), an elevation of 434 m (1,424 ft), and a maximum depth of 214 m (702 ft). Much of the shoreline rises steeply into mountains up to 1,500 m above the lake, resulting in many picturesque views including those of Mount Rigi and Mount Pilatus.

  • Some info on Stein am Rhein (according Wikipedia): Stein am Rhein is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland. The town has a well-preserved mediæval centre, retaining the ancient street plan. The site of the city wall, and the city gates are preserved, though the former city wall now consists of houses. The mediæval part of the town has been pedestrianised and is a peaceful and charming environment. Many of the mediæval buildings are painted with beautiful frescoes and are a must for the visitor. On February 22, 1945, the town was bombed by Allied airplanes.
