    • This album is a perfect example of why I came to Webshots to see areas as others seem them and feel them from others viewpoints. I love venturing about with your eyes, lovely shots and captures of areas I have never seen before but thru your eyes I can enjoy part of the world I probably never see, thanks so much Francisca for the time spent sharing your shots. cg

    • Hi Francisca. I have visited Calcata, so I found this album very interesting. I always like to see somewhere I know through someone else's camera lens. Your captures are very beautiful and so very different to mine. You descovered things that I never saw, I need to go and visit again. Take care. Warm wishes, Jayne/England

    • Hi Francisca, I stopped by here on my way to Givenchy and was so charmed I viewed each of these lovely photos. What wonderful photos and a charming town. Your history of the commune was most interesting. Congratulations on another great album! Regards- Lynne

    • Hello Francisca! First, let me heartily congratulate you for going past the 500,000 mark. One million cannot be far behind. I am sure you will reach this figure very quickly. Secondly, I find Calcata a fascinating place. Though it is certainly not in its historical prime condition, nevertheless, it has all the makings of a very charming place to live. Its alleys, the balconies, the old remenants of artifacts etc. do make this a unique town. Thank you for photographing it so well and sharing it with the webshots members. It is members like you who bring joy to the community of photographers. My best wishes to you, Suresh

    • Calcata is a comune and town in the Province of Viterbo in the Italian region Latium, located 47 km north of Rome by car, overlooking the valley of Treja river. In the 1930s, the hill towns's fortified historic center was condemned by the government for fear that the volcanic cliffs the ancient community was built upon would collapse. Local residents moved to nearby Calcata Nuova. In the 1960s, the emptied historical centre began to be repopulated by artists and hippies who squatted in its medieval stone and masonry structures. Many of the squatters eventually purchased their homes, the government reversed its condemnation order, and the residents of what had become an artistic community began restoring the ancient town. This trend has continued so that today that town boasts a thriving artistic community described in the New York Times as what "may be the grooviest village in Italy, home to a wacky community of about 100 artists, bohemians, aging hippies and New Age types." The historical centre now includes restaurants, cafes, and art galleries.
