Idyllic Lake Buhi, Camarines Sur, Philippines

Album Description:

It took me an hour to capture these bucolic photos of Lake Buhi before evening shadows fell, but images of tranquil waters, jagged mountains, mini fishes & laughing children of the lake lingered long after I left Lake Buhi.

    • Thanks for showing us Lake Buhi through your excellent shots. I haven't heard of this before, but now I know that Lake Buhi exists. Yes, it looks very serene, an ideal place to be alone with nature.

    • This is a highly informative album of the local lakes and mountains there in Camarines Sur, Philippines that is overshadowed by the popularity of nearby Mt Mayon. Your use of children and the song written by the local artist Benjamin Claveria wrapped up the docudrama that you skillfully presented with your pictures. The result is a nicely packaged album that is punctuated with a touch of information and love story artistry that you master so well. Thanks for sharing, my friend!

    • Right beside the lake is the town known today as Buhi which served before as a refuge to the settlers who fled from the outrage of Mayon Volcano. These people found permanent settlement in this area and started a civilization of some kind. This occasion of people fleeing from the towns surrounding the Mayon area was known in local term as "nakabuhi" (the one that got away or escaped) which was pointed as one probable justification to how the town acquired its present name. • Lake Buhi is a lake found in Buhi, Camarines Sur, Philippines. It has an area of 18 square kilometres and has an average depth of 8 meters. The lake lays in the valley formed by two ancient volcanoes, Mt. Iriga and Mt. Malimas. It was created in 1641, when an earthquake caused a side of Mt. Iriga to collapse. The resulting landslide created a natural dam that blocked the flow of nearby streams. Another theory suggests that it was created by the eruption of Mt. Iriga (also known as Mt. Asog) which is now dormant. The lake is famous since it is one of the few bodies of water that contains the "sinarapan" (Mistichthys luzonensis) which is the world's smallest commercially-harvested fish. The forest surrounding the Lake is the home of at least 25 bird species. (Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Buhi)
