Hi Nurit. An amazing album of a culture far removed from our own but no more less important. Your photos show a people in their natural surrounding and for that you have been true.I thought WS would have been able the see the difference between dirty photos, and natural and cultural photos . Well done for posting them. Eva/Scotland.

Dear Nurit, thank you for your reply. No, I have not heard of it...YET! I would like to have your opinion about my "non-violent" suggestion, or it could be also called "quiet rebellion"? Just like you did: Publish AGAIN! Is it a way to make "BB" start asking themselves some questions? Looking forward to read you soon! Love and hugs, Annick

Hi Nurit, Sounds like webshots subscribers have spoken! Your photos are enlightening, showing the world a very rural tribe's way of life and celebration. Good for you to reinstall these shots. Keep 'um coming. We'll be looking. Susan

Dear Nurit, I am leaving tomorrow but couldn't just go without replying to your message. I just can't believe that WS could be so narrow minded and so prudish! THIS IS REALITY....IT IS CULTURE THAT BEFORE LONG WOULD BE WIPED OUT and we are very grateful to you for showing it to us....... I have seen a documentary programme about the Dani Tribe on TV and find it fascinating....I really am sorry Nurit, but hope that it will not put you off sharing some more of your interesting images with us. You have travelled to some fantastic places and it is great to view all your albums and dream about these far away places. Good luck my friend, see you in April. Hugs vivien

Dear Nurit, I was delighted to notice that you have re-uploaded ALL of your Irian Jaya album. Just in case of a WS reprisal, I have downloaded all of this album in my private collection, where, I hope it will be safe! I think you have chosen the right attitude and action regarding this. And I believe it should be the way that ALL WS members could adopt when we are the victims of this Control Freak! Publish, re-publish and re-publish again, again and again, until WS gets tired of suppressing what is the author's sole property. This kind of reaction reminds me of Gandhi's non-violent response that earned him so many victories. Mind you, we are mature enough to judge the difference between what is documentary and of a cultural nature (Like the Venus de Milo for example, a Rubens painting or photos of cultures who do not wear a suit and tie) and plain and offensive pornography. And if this non-violent attitude would be taken by the MAJORITY of us Members, maybe Big Brother would begin to give it more thought before rudely "dump" our work. It is for us to decide. I would really appreciate your opinion about this, and maybe something good will eventually come out of this very unfortunate event. Love and hugs, your friend Annick. P.S. Have you ever heard of someone being BARRED from WS because of "un-discipline?

Hi Nurit. I was astonished and very cross that some narrow minded person felt that your photo needed removing. Do they also burn National Geographics, or smash DVDs of ethnographic material? How absurd! I commented first on this album when you first posted it....it is a terrific record of a vanishing culture meeting head-on the forces of change, and obviously of shame too. Solidarity and support, best wishes, Diana.

Great idea! Upload all of them, again! But with a little note like: PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB, or something. I just noticed that you are getting support from other members. This is great! You have pointed out something very important. The friendship we share is a million times more important than the narrow-minded "police" of the Webshots PURITY SQUAD". They remind me of the Tonton-Macoutes of Hati of shameful memory, or even the ill-famed Gestapo. Let us ignore those ignorants and keep on doing what we do best: publish, share and enjoy photography, and establish strong friendship ties. Love always, Annick

Hi, Nurit. These photos are good and keep them comming. I agree with the WS crew that offensive photos should be remove, but were is the line. These photos are no worse that what I saw in certain albums in the good time categories. I have a young child and I would like it if she saw these, but if it does happen, it is to us (adults) the responsible ones to explain to her that there are different cultures. And not to have a closed mind. Robert

Hi Nurit, I'm agree with you. I don't understand some people opinions about things that mean culture. It's a old batlle very difficult to own. Your album is wonderfull and show us a different culture and way of life. that's all. WS is a open window and that's mean that not all the people have the same opinion. It's hard to believe that such things can happen but very polite people, like you, heve to repect other opinions, in spite of other people don't respect yours. If you want to write me in a private way, please, contact with me in molto1950@hotmail.com and I will can say like the end of "Casablanca" film: That' can be the beginin of a great friendship.

Big Brother WS has judged again that my message was too long! Why does WS try so hard to be so unpleasant. This is SO FUTILE! Coming back to my letter: Then, WHY are you not in this collection! You have certainly made outstanding photos of "The King"! I have felt the injustice like if I was the one who has been "forgotten"! There are too many things I do not understand in this system! I hope this message has made you feel better, has consoled you a little. I share your pain, dear Nurit, and my sincere hope is that my friendship has eased it. Hoping to read you soon, Love and Hugs, Annick

My dear sweet Nurit, You have no idea how bad I feel after reading your letter of today. Bad and MAD! I followed your suggestion and went back to this album that I've enjoyed so much two months ago. And downloaded more photos to add to my previous crop, fearing that they would be again CENSURED!!! Because this is what it is! Censure in one of its most detestable representation. First, I must tell you, NURIT, I FULLY AGREE with every word you have written in your reply to this most abject action directed towards you. Who makes the value and interest of Webshots? People make Webshots, NOT THE CONTRARY!!! People like you who share their talent with others. Artistic, documented, unusual, diversified and singular views on the life that we share on this Planet where we live. The only one we have, by the way! And sharing this common haven requires understanding, respect comprehension and curiosity about the differences that are inherent to the fact that each of our fellow humans have developed DIFFERENT cultures and ways of life. Failure to do so is source of intolerance, racism, warfare. Censure is a way of rejecting what differs from our diverse codes. Censure of speech, opinion, dress code, living habits, religion, etc... Reading through blogs and comments, I have noticed that Webshots is becoming a Big Brother who displays more and more CONTROL over its Members. And this is NOT what we have bargained for when we registered as Members. Control over photos, number of characters in a message, definition of photos, and more. This is all very annoying, not to say more! Yes, my friend Nurit, you are more than RIGHT in your indignation. I fully resent what they have done to you. But how come YOU are not featured? Something else that you have not mentioned (and I do not want to hurt you by saying so) is about the new Members collection featuring Penguins. This is NOT a complaint about the members who are featured in this collection. Members who have gone to Antarctica are fewer that those who have visited Paris!

I had WS delete one of mine. A pro said he took the picture. He may have taken a photo of the same thing but he sure didn't take the one they deleted as I had the original digital image with the date on it. A pro can't copywrite a subject, just their picture. I agree with you that there's nothing offensive about the album. If it offended me I would not look any further. It's been on TV as well so I don't see the point.

Dear Nurit, You are our eyes to the unknown world, our National Geographic. For many of us the places you have visited and photographed leave us in awe. Your WS friends applaud you and encourage you to use your photography as a tool to educate us about the world and places we would never get to travel to. If someone finds this album offensive they should by know now how to use their mouse and go "click click" onto something else. Bravo to you!.....Jules

Dear sweet Nurit, just to make sure that I understood correctly what you meant, I will review what you wrote: instead of using the Member Message page, now post your comments in the album that is concerned by the comment you want to make. So far so good. But, Nurit, where do you write when the subject is of general matter? Do I post in ANY album? I noticed that you moved my last letter in this album and it's OK with me. Please confirm with me that I understand correctly or not. I wish things to be as convenient for you as possible! Goodby for now, dear Norit. Hugs and kisses, Annick

Hi Nurit. I have spent a lot of living time in rural Sumatra and other isolated parts of Indonesia(I speak Indonesian) but have not yet been to Irian. I really enjoyed this album. I was interested to see that the Indonesian habit of chainsmoking has pervaded even there! Like you I am also currently scanning lots of pre digital photos/negatives, specially from the Silk Road and other such journeys. All the best, Diana

It's the truth about an isolated tribe where it's warm enough to wear little clothing. Why would it offend? It's how we'd be it we weren't uptight cold area Europeans. If they dressed like that in the U.S. (even Miami) then it might be shocking and offensive, but not as the tribe they are.

Hi Nurit! Thanks for nice compliments on my newest albums, enjoyed pics of this album, not only in Indonesia you will find some tribe of India, Maldives, Srilanka, Bhutan & portion of other South Asian & African countries wearing these peculiar dresses with peculiar decoration on their whole body. These are their own tradition & they follow this tradition in some particular memorable days related to their own culture. Nice photography. My best wishes for you. Greetings from Sharif

It would be very interesting to discover where and why this custom started. Not offensive in any manner, just a strange custom for us Westerners. By seeing one of them dressed the same at the airport, it seems it is something everyone there is used to seeing.

Very interesting to see how people in other parts of the world still live. If Webshots finds this offensive then they have a problem. I have been trying to shut down Pedophiles and perverts on Webshots with little success. All the sick and nude pictures still exist today that I have flagged. National Geographic would be similar to this and it is not banned. If they do remove them, let me know and they will hear from me loud and clear. The pedophiles are actually flaunting it now. See tigerlady96 messages and how they are attacking her. Last I looked today they are still active and I sent all kinds of words to Webshots.

If WS thinks anything bad of these then they should be looking at some of the other things they let pass. I am greatful you put up the album. I like seeing how other "tribes" live. Di
