Album Description:

On Tuesday March 3 we made a round trip to Elandsbaai, went along the coastal road as far as Veldrift and returned to Porterville again. On this trip we made a stop at Redelingshuys for a coffee lunch. There we met the great artist Wilhelm van Wessels.

  • Dear Teun, viewing the clay art I had a vision of prehistorical objects and motifs...Even his garden statues of animals are prehystorical...The Griffin, the bodies...except one that I think it is a self portrait of himself... If the work would be taller and larger...I would say is Botero type...in clay... Nice aboriginal representation of the world he lives in....To refrase Netties closing statement..":step by step you become an expert in culture I see:))"Making Art one becomes that...it is inevitable...

  • Hi Teun, you made an interesting album of your trip to the West Coast - and by that way you introduced me and all the other visitors to the talented artist Wilhelm van Wessels. I like the way he works with so natural material like wood, clay and stone what forces him to simple but not less expressive forms (not sure about the right word). His artwork fits very well to the scenery.- Step by step you become an expert in sculpture I feel ;-)
