  • Odawara is a few train stops from Sagamino near the Naval Air Facility of Atsugi Japan where I visited last April. I hauled my camera and took pictures of the Odawara castle and its surrounding gardens. The castle is not far from the Odawara train station (Shinjuku line) and I took pics of the colorful sceneries on the way there. It is a short walk from JR or Odakyu Line or Hakone Tozan Tetsudo Line Odawara Stations. Its location on the Tōkaidō, between mountainous Hakone and Sagami Bay enabled it to have an interesting role in Japanese history. "Prior to the Edo period, Odawara Castle was the stronghold of the Late Hōjō clan warriors. During the Edo, its castle controlled the Tōkaidō between the Tokugawa headquarters at Edo and the stations west of Hakone, including Sumpu, Hamamatsu and Nagoya. Today, a reproduction of the castle stands high on a hill above the city. On August 15, 1945, Odawara was the last city in Japan to be bombed by Allied aircraft." Wikipedia
