Album Description:
This church goes by the official name - National Shrine of Our Lady of La Naval & Sto Domingo. But most folks like me just call it Sto Domingo Church. As a child, I have fond memories of the place, especially the beautiful stained glass windows.

Hi, Mary Ann. I just chanced on your homepage after reading a message you sent to our common friend Donald from San Francisco and I've liked very much what I've seen so far. You have amazing pictures and albums, some of them with certain resemblance to the kind of images I've posted on my own homepage. A good case in point is this album, as well as an orchid collection and other landscape shots. I'm looking forward to watching more of your great photography in coming days, hopefully over the weekend. Thanks for sharing your splendid photos. Take care and have a wonderful weekend. This is a beautiful church that I see almost daily as I ride the bus to U.P. from Quiapo, Manila. Unfortunately, I have never been inside to attend mass and look around. Thanks to you, I have now seen what the interior looks like. My favorite in the album, of course, are the stained glass that commemorates the station of the cross. I have never known this church by any other name but Sto Domingo church, along Quezon Blvd. Have a great day, my dearest friend!

Sto. Domingo Church was built by the Dominican Order under the supervision of Bishop Domingo De Salazar, OP of Intramuros, Manila. It was a wooden structure then. It was reconstructed again together with the convent after it collapsed in 1589 but this time it was made up of concrete. It was called "Our Lady of the Rosary" or "Our Lady of La Naval". It was relocated to Quezon City after getting lot of destruction during the World War 2. The image is credited for having saved the city from a Dutch invasion in 1646. It is honored in a much celebrated religious festival. The church is one of the tallest and largest in the Philippines. The main altar has a mosaic of St. Dominic designed by Architect Jose Zaragoza. Galo Ocampo designed the stained glass windows. The mural in front was created by Francesco Riccardo Monti. (Taken from http://en.wikipilipinas.org/index.php?title=Santo_Domingo_Church)
