Album Description:
Spanish colonial expansion in the Philippines began in this small military garrison called Fort (Fuerza) San Pedro which was first built in 1565 by Miguel Lopez de Legaspi in Cebu City. I reckon it is about 1/3 the size of Fort Santiago in Manila.

I thought the oldest fort in the Philippines was Fort Santiago. This is the first time I heard of Fort San Pedro, so thanks for the history lesson. The walls are indeed very thick, no wonder it withstood the test of time and attacks against it. Imagine the expansion of Christianity from this little bastion of a garrison. You also managed to capture the local flowers to give the fort more color beside the heavy grey and black concrete. Thanks for the caption, now I feel like I took History of the RP 101 again! As usual, your photos are docu-accurate and the composition is... outstanding. Thanks Mary Ann!
