Album Description:
I found Paoay Church to be elegant yet strong & sturdy - thanks mainly to its massive stone buttresses. It's quite amusing to see curlycues carved into each huge buttress - perhaps to give it a "light" feel?

MaryAnn, thank you for showing me around and in this historical church. The photos are so good, the stories around it illustrative too.

Thanks for sharing this massive yet elegant church of Paoay in Ilocos Norte. The texture and the built of the building reminded me of Intramuros or Fort Santiago in Manila. The massive buttresses were probably built to withstand the earthquakes that is common in the area. Yes, I find the altar to be "Spartan" or lacking luxurious accouterments, much like Ilocanos are (mostly speaking of myself :) frugal, hard working and proud. The ;ictures are so beautiful and the focus are sharp! I also noticed the blue skies and beautiful cloud formations atop the house in front of the church. Again, your webshot friends (including me of course) are indebted to you. We would not be able to enjoy this cultural trip if not for your altruistic devotion to your hobby and devotion to showing the Philippines for all of us to see!
