Album Description:

Windmill the Hare, built in 1772 was used for milling corn for 160 years. From 1932, it was left to die. Restaured in 1985, it is in use ever since in Benthuizen; my nextdoor village. A proud, powerful and beautiful windmill.

  • Hi Anna, funny to discover that the country we live in actually IS beautiful. Sometimes we seem to forget that and take all these trips abroad - when there's great photo ops right here at home. Hmm, something to reflect on. Anyway, I really loved the ideas of the macro-like detail shots of something as huge as a windmill... I think I'll play around with that some as well when I get a chance. Great job!

  • Hi Anna, thanks for signing the guestbook of my featured album. I'm fascinated by windmills in general (http://community.webshots.com/album/185314539IIyGaZ) ... this one is from another world. Yes, the weather in Venice was perfect with vivid and warm colors. Hope you'll be lucky too! Except for the ride on line 8 from Piazza Roma to Rialto thru Canale Grande, all shots were taken while wandering around on foot. I guess a ride in gondola is perfect for shooting as it slowly takes you wherever you like. looking forward seeing Venice thru your Nikon 8700. Greetings from Belgrade, Serbia. Anja

  • I see you came walking in Yorkshire. Glad you enjoyed it and signed the book. If ever you find yourself taking a real walk in England be sure to call into Derbyshire too ...its very nice here. Anyway, back to the windmills ...they make such a fantastic sight sitting there by the canals and you've made a great job of capturing the atmosophere they create. Best wishes ...Mike. Oops ., I almost forgot. I didnt answer an email a while back about your next "Friends&quo t; album. If you find something of mine that appeals please feel free to use it.

  • Hello Anna, This is a marvelous album; colorful, excelent details, unique shapes and light patterns, and lots of blue skies. A wonderful heritage of Holland. Thanks for the short, but very meaningful, comment on my blacksmith shop and shed pictures. I have spent most of the past two weeks organizing pictures, repairing viewing machines and viewers, making anaglyphs, researching, and building slide shows for a program about stereo photography. I presented the program last night to our historical society (it was very successful) so I can now return to a less hectic lifestyle, at least until it is time to start mowing grass, planting and tending gardens and going to organ rallies. Happy spring to you and may you have many sunny photographic days. Regards and God bless, Carl

  • Hello Anna! Thanks for the nice comments on my featured album today! My hubby and I are scheduled to visit Europe this May/June. Amsterdam and vicinity is on our list of places to visit. I'm looking forward to visit some of your country's landmarks including the canals, quaint villages, windmills, flowers, etc. Amhalveytoo is short for "I'm a Halvey, too". Halvey is a derivative of my husband's last name and my name is Bernie.

  • Hi Anna, yes, i did get my new camera. It'll be a while before I get more photos put on my site, as its snowy and pretty cold. The roads is are not very good, and I don't fancy getting stuck in the car somewhere. I'm not sure how much longer the snow will be here for, but I hope its gone pretty soon, I hate it.] I will take a few photos just from the house to show you what its like. All the best, George from a very snowy Shetland, lol.

You made a masterpiece with this album! How could you get up so high to take the pictures??? Thanks, Anna! To answer your question abour the rattlers in our animal album from Arizona, we have written in the guestbook of this album, just after your question; may be that other people too (so Jane) are interested in that... I have a good old friend who is a painter and who told me much of your country. Wish I had money to visit it. I haven't had the opportunity to view all of your albums yet, but, the little I saw of them so far has impressed me much. I like the type of shots you take on the mill. • Hi Anna like the windmills we have one in Scarborough. I have apanoramic shot from just up the road were i live i have downloaded it to my panoramic pic's it's the Falsgrave park panorama. The dragonfly photo you asked about was done with my Olympus C5050z in super macro mode the camera set's the lens to the wide angle end and you can focus as close as 3cm away iwas about 75mm away. I cheated as i had hold of the dragonfly at the time it's the only way you can get the shot's some times, i was most annoyed when i released her as it was spread ot perfectly on the side of the pond just as i was about to take a photo a male flew down and grabed her round the neck and flew up into the trees with her. Most of the pic's of theHawker Dragonflys took hours of time as they very rarely land so you have to observe there behavior to se when they rest

  • Anna, what a great album of what most Americans think about (along with tulips and wooden shoes)when Holland is mentioned, windmills. Your photographs are excellent with vibrant color and interesting details as well as very refined composition. You sure have an eye for what to include and what to exclude in a photograph. I especially love your shots of the cloth sails attached to the wooden wings of the windmill. I am a sailor and have wondered for years how these sails are raised and lowered. Is each cloth sail furled from the ground with its wodden wing in the vertical position? If so, does the mill have brakes to keep the wings from rotating while each of the cloth sails is unfurled? If someone has the answer, I'd sure like to know it. If you check my album called "Windmills, Wheels, Belts, and Gears" you will find a Danish windmilla and aome nice drawings of the millworks of a windmill. Anna, I think you will enjoy them. Thanks for sharing. Bill cable (heyburn3)

A month ago you asked me to let you know when i have new albums: on nttl2k1 i have two new albums: Quebec zoo and Isle aux Coudres and i put new pictures in some albums like "Fields and flowers", "Tour du Quebec:Cote nord..." and "Domaine Maizerets" also you can see my latest photo session in "A day in a life". On nttl2k2 my only new album is "Urban art" but i add pictures in albums "Scenic pictures from Canada", "Tour du Quebec:Centre du Quebec...", "Butterflies#2& quot;, "Jardin Roger Van den Hende" (i think it's one of my best), "Wood carving in scenic shots" who's featured last week, "Sun and sky", and "Animals&quo t;. Finally i invite you to look at the album "Best shots" and if you like some pictures in any albums you visit, your choices will be part of the next edition of this album. Thanks for your support, Michel from Canada

  • Dear Anna, I'm very grateful for your comments on my albums. It's something like this that keeps me going. I have checked your albums and it's really nice as well. That's the point, having good comments by a talented person makes my day and a smile on my face. Have you checked this website: www.deviantart.com ? You can put your art, pictures, anything on this website for free. It's great because lots of people comments about your work. It's worthy! Check it out. My page is: http://akahn.deviantart.com/ but I have the same works that I have on Webshots. Anyway, there's someone there that is really amazing!!!! He's a painter and he's page on Deviantart is: http://jasinski.deviantart.com/Many people there are very talented. Be well and keep in touch! Ana Cristina Kahn

  • Hi Anna! This is another one of your beautiful and interesting albums!!! You really have the touch for the amazing!!! Great compositions, fantastic colours!!! Thank you very much for sharing your stunning work!!! By the way thank you also very much for your kind words in my guestbooks, I really appreciate it!!! PS: You have to know that the camera and the zoomlens you asked for is not my own - unfortunately - it's just lended out from the firm I'm working for, this is a privilege I have!!! This camera and their accessories from the wideangle to the zoomlens are very expensive! For me myself, I have a Nikon Coolpix 5000. Greetings from Switzerland, Erik.
