This is a memory magnetic core unit built by IBM for the SAGE (Semiautomatic Ground Environment) defense computer. SAGE was a vaccuum tube computer built in the 1950s and housed in giant concrete buildings at Duluth, MN, Minot, ND, and a couple other places.
