This is the monument to "Old" Chief Joseph, located just outside of the town of Joseph, Ore, near Wallowa Lake. Old Chief Joseph was Chief Joseph's father. Chief Joseph was the chief of the Nez Perce indian tribe who led his people on the famous march up towards Canada in the 1880s, only to be captured just miles from the border.
