Since Diego Garcia has been in the news lately as a launching pad for B52 bombers heading to Afghanistan, I thought I'd add photos I shot from my 1979 eight-month tour there as a photojournalist with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FIVE (NMCB 5), a Seabee command. In the 10 years I spent on active duty with the Navy, DG and Honduras were my favorite assignments. The Seabee camp was located on the tip of this horseshoe-shaped atoll.
