the only way you can tell the 1000 years old Nasca lines from the 20th century land rover marks and El ninio paths, is because the Nasca lines are remarkably straight. with no means of seeing the lines from above, these seemingly primitive people managed to put the stones in such a straight line, that makes you feel like you are looking at an airplane runway.
