Montgomery Bell came to Middle Tennessee in 1802 and went to work for James Robertson at the Cumberland Iron Works. Two years later he bought Robertson out and proceeded to build iron works all over Middle Tennessee. He is recognized as the father of what was then a growing iron ore industry.
