I got to the beginning of US 8 by driving through Toronto and up around Lake Huron, crossing back into the US in Sault Saint Marie, then following I-75 and US 2 to the beginning of US 8. I drove all of US 8 in one day, staying in Sault Saint Marie one night and Minneapolis the next night.
