Just down the road from here, the Fort Kent Chamber of Commerce erected a sign saying that Key West, Florida, the end of US 1, was 2209 miles away. To get to Fort Kent in 1993, I went through Canada along the south shore of the St. Lawrence River. This is a beautiful drive as you head northeast from Quebec City. When I crossed into Fort Kent, the border agent was kind enough to point out the sign saying 2209 miles to Key West.
