jmeeter, you obviously did not read the article you linked to at wikipedia. The link you gave just made mention of a place where this phenomenon is mentioned in a novel. If you were to read everything ABOVE your link you would see that this is truly a REAL photo.

Not a hoax, just went there last month. It's written up in the Death Valley National Parks info, if you're a dis-believer. One of the world's famous mysteries.

This is clearly photoshopped, the "Sailing Stones" thing is a myth. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racetrack_Playa#The_.22Sailing_Stones.22_in_fiction for more details.

No one really knows. It remains a mystery even though there have been teams of scientists that have studied the area and the rocks extensively. Even more mysterious is the sites proximity to a large crater created by a massive meteor striking the earth many years ago. Theories abound from ice crystals to the wind to ???. Its anyone's guess...great photo though!
