Here are two of the most significant original buildings still standing in Virginia City. The smaller one on the left was once the mine headquarters for the Bonanza Mine. After the big fire of 1875, John McKay, Mine Superintendant and part owner made the headquarters building his home after his own home had burned. To the right is the large school that kids from the once bustling community of 35,000 attended.
