An incredible story, John McKay came to Virginia City with $1.60 in his pocket. His goal was to make $125,000 and quit! That amount of money was a princely sum in the 1860s. He ended up, in just a decade, becoming the richest man in the United States! By 1880 he'd made hundreds of times his planned amount.
