Until a few years ago, US-26 piggybacked on US-101 between Seaside and Astoria, and 26 thus ended along with US-30 at the Route 101 bridge over the Columbia River in Astoria. Now US-26 goes south on 101 when it meets the coastal highway, not north, and ends at the exit to the town of Cannon Beach at the north end of town. There's actually an "END US-26" sign there now! (Such signs weren't used by Oregon DOT until just recently.) Yes, US-26 ends at an _offramp_...not the Pacific Ocean, which is just a short distance from the turnoff! As a result, the sign here has been changed to show just US-101...this picture is just southwest of Astoria.
