An oasis in a barren valley, Jericho is thought to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, dating back to 8000 BCE. (Of course, it has been inhabited by many different peoples). At 260 meters (853 feet) below sea level, it is also the lowest city in the world. Jericho is considered the most peaceful Palestinian city. In the foreground you can see the Intercontinental hotel hosting the casino where thousands of Israelis used to gamble every day before the so-called Intifada.
