A memorial to Don Carlos Palance Tan Quien Sien- an illustrious Chinese-Filipino leader during the 19th century. It was through his efforts the the cemetery was built at all! You see, in those days, if you were not Catholic, you weren't allowed to be buried in the city cemeteries-hence the need for the non-Christian Chinese to have their own cemetery. And besides, it was impractical to have the body shipped back to China- not in those days w/out formalin and supersonic jets anyway!
