This section of housing was not there when we left in Sep 1963. This area is almost directly across the street from where I lived on the north end of Hickam. Right across the street from 110 Hickam was a small Court. Sometime later before Loring closed these were built. After the second good snow of the winter, all the kids and a bunch of parents would get together close to where you see these houses and we would make a large community ice skating rink. It was never as nice as the main base rink, but it sure was fun to go out on it after school or at night and not have to have Dad drive us over to the main rink. Just over the trees where you see a street light was the main road where you would turn left after passing the hospital to go out the main gate, or turn right to go the main base area. If you turned left at the intersection, you would then pass the little league baseball field. I have wonderful and everlasting memories of that field. I was a tall and big kid for my age, and some of the parents did not like me pitching hardball to their kids. I remember this one kid was really small, and he would always really crowd the plate. I did not want to hurt him, or anyone else, and after a couple of pitches I waved my arm at him to MOVE BACK ! Well, wouldn't you know it? Two pitches later I clobbered him. I felt terrible. I felt even more terrible when the ump walked out to the mound and threw me out of the game. I am smiling as I write this now, but there was no humor in the summer of 61.
