Not exactly. It was originally built to house the clerks (writers) of the East India Co. Now it is the Headquarters of the Govt. of West Bengal.

This is NOT Writer's Buildings. This is headquarters of ANZ Grindlays Bank located at 41,Chowringhee Road (New Name:Jawaharlal Nehru Road),Kolkata.
