One of the few monuments in Bukhara to survive the invasion of Genghis Khan. The story is that on looking up to see the minaret, his hat fell off. To pick it back up, he had to bow his head before the minaret. Never having bowed his head before anything, he spared the minaret from destruction. In later years it became known as the 'Tower of Death', as emirs had prisoners thrown to their deaths from it.
