15 Al-Jazzar Mosque - Ceiling Decoration

orlyyahalom > albums > Old Acre (Akko)

Album Info:

Mosques are mostly decorated with elaborated calligraphy and geometric ornaments, rather than realistic objects, in order to follow the second commandment, "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image", which is identified with the Quran verse "No visions can encompass Him, but He encompasses all visions". In Judaism, this prohibition is sometimes enforced less severely. In Christianity the commandment is interpreted merely as prohibition on idolatry.
