Jose de la Borda commissioned Mexico's greatest artist of the day, Miguel Mateo Maldonado y Cabrera, for a series of paintings. These paintings are located in the tympanum of the entrance to the chapel of Padre Jesus of Los Indios. They depict scenes in the life of Jesus Christ. This painting depicts the circumcision of Jesus.
