With the conservation of Mary Madeleine relics,preferred Companion of Christ, the 9 th century monastery attracted more and more penitents; That needed to extend the previous Carolingian Church (1096-1104); During year 1120, a violent fire destroyed all the nave killing more than one thousand pilgrims; The nave will be rapidly rebuilt with a pre-nave called narthex (it is why there are inside & outside porches); The roman & gothic choir and the right transept will be finished in 1215.
